From July 21st to 25th, 2023, members of the 2023 NKU Silicon Valley Study Tour embarked on a thrilling technology exploration journey to the renowned FLAG companies in Silicon Valley. The FLAG companies, including Facebook, LinkedIn, Apple, and Google, are at the forefront of technological innovation, and the students had the unique opportunity to experience the charm of these world-class tech giants up close!
At the FLAG companies’ research and development laboratories, the students were guided by mentors to witness the latest technological achievements. They also had the chance to visit Oracle’s headquarters in Silicon Valley. Oracle, a global leader in enterprise software and cloud computing services, has gained immense popularity worldwide for its innovative technologies and products. During the tour, the students learned about Oracle’s establishment and development history, as well as its significant contributions in fields such as database technology, cloud computing, and enterprise solutions.
Google, being the largest internet search engine company globally, has won the hearts of countless users worldwide with its innovative technologies and cutting-edge products. Upon arrival at Google headquarters, the students were first greeted by the “Innovation Wall,” where they experienced the company’s long-standing spirit of innovation and the drive to continuously break boundaries. Under the guidance of mentors, they delved into Google’s development history and its vital contributions to fields such as search, artificial intelligence, and virtual reality.
The students were filled with excitement as they stepped into the headquarters of Meta (formerly known as Facebook), embarking on a futuristic technology journey. Enthralled by the mesmerizing visuals of the metaverse in the reception area, they explored the immersive experiences showcasing the potential of metaverse technology, leaving them in awe of the future digital world.
The study tour also took the students to Apple’s headquarters, where they witnessed the technological advancements and product evolution over the past few decades. From the first Macintosh computer to the current iPhone, iPad, and other innovative products, Apple’s significant contributions to technological history were vividly displayed. They also had the chance to enter Apple’s research and development lab, experiencing firsthand the cutting-edge technological achievements. Witnessing the practical applications of virtual reality technology and interactive experiences with smart devices left the young students feeling as if they could touch the miracles of these technologies with their own fingertips.
After the visits, the students had the opportunity to engage in discussions with the companies’ research teams.
